How Electrolysis Works for Hair Removal

Electrolysis has existed for over 130 years—originally developed in 1875 by an Ophthalmologist to remove his patients’ painful ingrown eyelashes. It has been and continues to be the only 100% permanent hair removal method for all hair colors and skin colors

Electrolysis is now a popular method for permanent hair removal that utilizes a direct electric current to destroy the hair follicle. This process targets individual hair follicles to prevent future hair growth. Here’s a breakdown of how it works:

Key Components

  • Electrolysis Machine: A device that generates the electric current needed for the procedure.

  • Probe: A fine needle-like instrument that is inserted into the hair follicle.

  • Power Source: The source that provides the necessary electricity for the electrolysis process.

Process of Electrolysis

  1. Preparation: The area to be treated is cleaned, and a consultation may be conducted to assess the individual's hair and skin type.

  2. Insertion of the Probe: A trained technician carefully inserts the probe into the hair follicle.

  3. Application of Electric Current: Once the probe is in place, a controlled electric current is applied. This current destroys the hair follicle by either thermal or chemical means.

  4. Hair Removal: After the follicle is treated, the hair is gently removed using tweezers.

Types of Electrolysis

  • Galvanic Electrolysis: Uses a direct current to produce a chemical reaction that destroys the hair follicle.

  • Thermolysis: Employs high-frequency alternating current to generate heat, which destroys the follicle.

  • Blend Method: Combines both galvanic and thermolysis methods for effective hair removal.

Benefits of Electrolysis

  • Permanent hair removal solution.

  • Safe for all skin and hair types.

  • FDA-approved method for hair removal.

Overall, electrolysis is a highly effective and scientifically validated method for achieving permanent hair removal, making it a preferred choice for many seeking long-term solutions.
